2012 Wrap-up (July-September)

July

We got the camping itch again, so we went with our best-buddies Kristen and Trent. Trent and Nate have been friends since their freshman year of school and Kristen and I met our sophomore year. I was dating Nate when Trent and Kristen met. I made Kristen become my friend because none of the other roommates could keep a girl around long enough and they definitely needed some more estrogen around. Soon enough, we hit it off and the four of us are just the best of friends! Nate and Trent took the LSAT prep course together so they were feeling relieved to be done with their class and the big test.

Anyways... We went camping with out friends T&K. We played games, made super yummy food, went on a hike and got lost, went on another hike and didn't get lost, and just enjoyed each others' company.

We may have packed too much stuff...

We carved our initials into trees (oops!) and hopefully we can find them when we go back!

And... we visited the Draper LDS Temple. It is so pretty! We then stopped at the ice cream shoppe at Thanksgiving point to get a delicious treat!

So pretty!

It was a beautiful day

Yummmm. Don't worry, we shared this

August

The first week of August was spend in Bear Lake, Utah with Nathan's mother's family. We had a fun family reunion with everyone except Andrea, Tyler and the chilluns, who we missed very much. There was nearly 30 people in one house which was a little crazy at times, but mostly very fun. It was especially fun for me because I have not spent a lot of time (or even met up to this point) some of these family members, so it was nice to get to know them a bit more. I went to my very first rodeo, we ran a 5k, had a family Olympics, went to the beach, and ate lots of yummy raspberry shakes!

Gettin' ready for the rodeo. Yeehaw!

We finished! Yay for us!

I got 4th place for my age division! I was so excited (and still am).

G&G Reese. Thanks for the fun trip!

Bear Lake

Eventually, we had to get  back to work and normal life. Ben and Lindsey came back home and spent a few extra days with us before heading to their home. Most of the time was spend warding off sickness and avoiding spreading it around, but it was still nice to spend extra time with them.

September

School started again. Nathan started his public relations internship at the High School Relations office at BYU. He started travelling to high schools in Utah to give presentations to juniors and seniors about BYU: why they should consider attending, how to apply, and answer any questions they may have. He really enjoyed it because he got to travel, he got to use a BYU car and was paid for his internship! His travels took him away from home a few nights a a month, but it was a great opportunity for him.

For Labor Day, we had the day off of school and work, so we decided to hike Squaw Peak. Squaw Peak has the reputation for being the infamous make-out spot where people drive up to see the view of the valley and then end up just macking for hours. But, despite its tainted reputation, it is a beautiful mountain that requires a long-ish hike to appreciate its beauty. The sun was starting to rise as we began our hike, which made it a little chilly, but we warmed up pretty quickly.

After we finished, we rewarded ourselves with a delicious brunch from Kneaders!

Just starting out

We can see a little bit of the valley, but we're not done yet

Loved all of the trees

We made it! The view from the top, east of the valley

Made it!
The valley... you can see the whole lake from up there!

Intramural Sports are an integral part of student life at BYU. I have played soccer and flag football and Nate has played soccer for several years. He has had the same friends on the team (for the most part) and nearly all of them are from Idaho. It is really fun to get together with them to play, and is nice for me because I can get to know their wives/girlfriends. Some speed and skill may be lost compared to how they have played in years past, but they get out there and play their little hearts out regardless.

A close call

We're sad that we will be graduating and won't be able to play intramurals anymore. Neither of us ever managed to get "the most coveted shirt on campus," the Intramural Champtionship t-shirt. I guess we just can't graduate until we get one!

2012 Wrap-up (May and June)

Year 2012 was supposed to be the year I got really good at putting things on my blog. Welp, 9 months after my last post and 2 months into the New Year, I am going to try again! Here is a recap of the rest of 2012:

May:

May offered me a lot of free time, which was fun! At first I was really bored with the extra time I had: I was only working 30 hours per week and not taking any classes. I started to make some yummy new recipes, painted a free sewing table (I found it by the dumpster... a topic for another discussion), went on lots of fun group dates, went to several BYU men's soccer games, and went to see Pentatonix in concert!

Lemon Poppyseed (baked, not fried) Scones! So yummy

(Not) Fried Ice Cream

This was a fun group date to Trafalga in Lehi where we went mini-golfing, laser tagging, and bowling!

Free sewing table, found in the rain at the dumpster by our apt complex, so obviously I had to take it! The before...

...And after!

Park date... BBQ and t-ball

Men's soccer game

Pentatonix (we were pretty far away)! They are an a cappella group that won "The Sing-Off" that are so fun to listen to

100% Homemade key lime pie... My favorite!
June

June was a great month! We headed down to California for my brother Ryan's high school graduation. What an exciting time for him! I am sad he is growing up, but not too sad because he join us in town just a few weeks later for Spring Term at BYU.

Bored to death during the ceremony

The day after his graduation we all flew out for a graduation trip/family vacation to HAWAII! It was such a fun trip. Time literally stopped as we explored the island of Oahu, went snorkeling, soaked up the sun at the beach, went on hikes and just enjoyed being together. It was really fun to spend time with my husband and siblings together. It was really important to me to find a husband that got along with my brothers and sisters, and Nate just fits right in. Having the week together as a family really helped us grow closer: we weren't distracted by our own obligations, sports practices, etc. so we spent all of our time playing together. It was awesome because I didn't really feel the big age differences between us, we were just all buddies!

Our real personalities coming out
Nate had been studying for the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) from January till June. The LSAT is the test you have to take to get into law school and he has been studying like a mad man for months! He took it about a week after we got back from Hawaii, so he had to study a bit while on vacation. But, it was worth it because when he got his score back, he found out he scored in the 94th percentile (What a smarty)!

Once we got back, he took his big test and we celebrated by going camping with some friends! Landon and Keisha are some good friends of ours, so we spend a weekend with them camping about an hour from our house. I never grew up camping so this is a relatively new experience for me. I have camped for girl's camp before, but never really in an unstructured environment. Nate's family used to camp pretty frequently, so it is something he's wanted to do for a while. We tried to go fishing, but it was extremely windy and nothing would bite. Not even the bottom-feeding catfish. Fishing was kind of a bust, but it was still a fun adventure!
